Candida C. Agcaoili

Prof. Candida C. Agcaoili, Total Awardee in the field of Education, served the University of Santo Tomas (UST) for 44 years. A native of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Library Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Santo Tomas in 1950,and Master of Arts in Library Science from Holy Rosary College (US) in 1953. She was past president of the Philippine Librarians Association (1973), founding chairman of the Philippine Association of Teachers in Library Science in 1964, and former Chief Librarian of UST for fifteen years. Prof. Agcaoili was honored with a lifetime service award from the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information science on its 40th ruby jubilee. The award was given for her outstanding and meritorious services dedicated to the practitioners, teachers and developers of library education and librarianship in the country, and for leading the total integration of all library associations under the Philippine Library Association; most importantly for her continued and vigorous support to the ideals and visions of PATLS. Mrs. Agcaoili is currently the library and information consultant in the UST Graduate School.
